Hologram house guards, ice-extinguishers, jet packs, lasers that disintegrate anyone unfortunate enough to walk into them. Tomorrowland: A World Beyond is a cocktail of wacky ideas, and some brilliant ‘toys’.Īs we follow our lead character on her bizarre journey, she encounters certain situations that call for extreme measures – to help protect (as well as entertain the audience). I sat open-mouthed, frowning during this bit in sheer fascination. And this is before the real effects kick in, and the tower splits. It sees the twinkling Eiffel lights turn into gushes of gold, which blends nicely with the backdrop of the dark Parisian streets at night time. The entire scene is fucking mad – but executed in a style that helps radiate colour and beauty. Frank, Casey and Athena transport themselves to the top of it in order to manipulate the French landmark – to get them up into outer space. I’ve not seen anything like it in a movie for a while using a famous landmark to steer the movie in a fascinating, otherworldly direction. The visuals involving the Eiffel Tower are stunning. I lapped it up, and like much of this movie’s 127 minutes of screen time, found myself smiling in amusement.Įnsure you keep your eyes firmly on the screen during the scene where our lead protagonists visit Paris. A full shop-frontal (ha! See what I did there?) fight scene kicks off which is very entertaining. This scene also contained a great bit of visuals when the confrontation turns heated. It is tense, exciting, yet slightly sinister at the same time – the whole thing reminded me of some sort of Goosebumps book from many years ago girl finds weird object – goes to the shop to confront the owner – owner isn’t what she expected and she gets herself into trouble. ![]() And the scene is brilliantly wacky in fact I don’t think I took my eyes off the screen the entire time. It was probably at that moment I realised Tomorrowland: A World Beyond is fit for audiences of all ages.Īnother scene sees Casey track down a shop whose owner’s may know something about the strange pin badge she has acquired. “fell down stairs” the cute thing gurgled. The child actually had a few audience members laughing out loud during the scene where Casey takes a nasty fall down a flight of stairs. Including a very young child, who kept making noises of entertainment throughout particular scenes – and was quiet during more serious scenes as his or her parents let out a chuckle ot two. And I have the perfect example as I sat in the auditorium watching this movie on Friday evening, there was a family of two or three a few rows in front of me. What I found most impressive about its structure was the transition easily from wacky, brightly coloured ‘kids stuff’ to more serious action and dialogue that an older audience would relate more to. Tomorrowland: A World Beyond is a pleasant mix of fantasty, sci-fi and drama. In fact, I was very impressed by Robertson’s performance – more of that to come.ĭavid Tennant & Billie Piper in Doctor Who The pair reminded me a little of Doctor Who (the Tennant one) and his companion Rose – young blonde teenager hesitantly following this mysterious man into a wonderfully strange world but springing into action by use of her own intelligence. ![]() The on-screen chemistry between lead actors Robertson and Clooney is very good, natural. This is a movie of childlike imagination with a streak of adult understanding. But although fast-moving, it pauses in the right places to deliver its heartfelt story. The plot involving Casey – a science enthusiast – and Frank – a man exiled from the world he belongs in – moves at fast pace, and is very slick. And the main element making it so good has to be its story, its structure. ![]() Tomorrowland: A World Beyond was an absolute gem from beginning to end. I assumed from the trailer that this movie would be the stuff of dreams, produced from the ingredients of pure imagination. Bound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.

Most films shown in theaters are in 35-millimeter format, while others can be shot and printed in a 70-millimeter format. The IMAX filming process involves the use of specialized cameras and film stocks to create high-resolution, large-format images that are optimized for projection on large screens in IMAX theaters. The screen at 4DX theaters is plain and straight and does not cover the whole front wall of the theater like the one in an IMAX theater. Shifting our attention to 4DX, it has a small screen compared to most regular theaters. Unlike other famous theaters with big screens, such as ScreenX, IMAX domes have gone the extra mile to include dome-shaped screens that wrap the entire theater. The IMAX cinema process increases the image resolution by using a larger film frame. IMAX domes provide a hemispherical screen with a diameter of up to 30 meters. The IMAX theater is more of a traditional theater, but if you seek an experience that’s out of this world, IMAX domes will fulfill your needs. The large screens enable you to see the movies from a broad angle, which attracts your full attention and makes you feel the realistic effect of the film. Usually, the screen measures 16 meters high by 22 meters wide, but you will discover some IMAX theaters with much larger screens up to 30 meters high. When we want to start recording we would have to have to pull over, get out of the car, press record, get back in the car, and then go about our business. Here’s why: Let’s say we mount a camera on the hood of a car. Believe me, I should invest in gaffer tape and rubber bands.Īs far as the remote control is concerned, Lorex was gracious to include it. The other action cameras, such as the GoPro Hero and ContourHD, don’t offer the tripod socket so I was a slave to their proprietary mounts or found myself coming up with very creative ways of attaching them to my available tripods and various mounts. This camera felt more like a production camera than a standard action camera. I have plenty of tripods, mini-tripods, and table tripods in my arsenal, and I found that I could attach this camera to all of them. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to have the tripod socket and remote. This camera has many other similar functions, too, like a self-timer, adjustable white balance settings, night-mode, and continuous shot for the photo option. With all the features that this little camera has to offer, it is safe to say that it can be comparable to a standard HD video camera with a lens cap, a tripod socket at the bottom of the camera, and a remote control. The great thing about the LCD screen is that it is standard on the Active HD camera and not an optional accessory like other action POV cameras. I loved having the LCD screen not just for camera status display, but mainly for framing my shots and getting a live preview so I know what my shots will look like or see if the camera is tilted too high, too low or positioned incorrectly. There is even a slot for a mini HDMI cable so you can connect the camera to your HDTV and review your footage. Under the lens is a speaker, so you can hear the audio while you review the playback. There are about a dozen icons that can be displayed on the screen – from the battery status to video resolution to white balance and much more. With the screen being the small size it is, I was truly impressed with the show of icons it displayed, and the icons were easy to see and not crammed and unreadable. ![]() The screen has a nice contrast and sharp image to it. The 1.5″ inch TFT screen has a resolution of 320 x 240 and has a nice display during playback. ![]() One of the first things to catch my eye on the camera was the LCD screen on the back. Its like the little garnishing around a gourmet dish. I like when a company takes an effort in their product design all the way down to the packaging. The camera and the accessories were packaged neatly and securely inside. Unboxing the Active HD Sports Camera, I was pleasantly impressed with the box packaging. We’ll look at all three cameras in this review. Lorex also sent me a compact Waterproof HD Helmet Camera and Active HD Sports Camera Sunglasses. Having reviewed these two cameras, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Active HD Sports Camera, Lorex‘s version of the action camera to see what it held. These days, any non-HD action camera seems sub-par compared to regular HD footage considering that HD seems standard on most action cameras. At the time, the GoPro Hero wasn’t a HD camera but an SD camera. I have previously reviewed two other action cameras, the ContourHD and the GoPro Hero. But are there standards for these candid action cameras or is it just as simple as pressing the record button? For me, it’s more than point and shoot. Nowadays, it seems like action POV cameras are used everywhere from TV shows to documentaries to the weekend warrior next door.
